On a snowy, blowy winter day, Robert got lost on his way to Picture Book Hour at the Public Library.
He wasn't very badly lost. But the dashing young policeman who came to the rescue had to do a little detective work to find out where Robert was going. For Robert was head over ears in love with a book, and to him the Library was simply the place where the book lived—Mike's house, he called it. The mystified policeman didn't know of any "Mike Mulligan" in the neighborhood who lived in a "very big house with steps and steps and steps up to the front door!"
Here is a gay, small adventure such as any book-loving four-year-old might have, and Don Freeman's delightful drawings catch just the look of a sturdy, exuberant little boy whose world is full of friends.
