'I have nothing to do,' said Walter Possum to his father. 'Nothing at all to do.' None of his toys looked as if they would be any fun at all. As for raking up the yard, 'Raking leaves isn't really something to do,' Walter explains.
But when Father presents him with a magic something-to-to stone, things begin to brighten up. All Walter has to do is rub the stone and look around and think, and the stone will give him an idea for something to do. By suppertime Walter has had several adventures . . . and he has also discovered something very valuable about thinking for himself.
Young readers, who often have to think of something to do, themselves, will be delighted with the solution that Father Possum helped Walter find. Once again Russell and Lillian Hoban have combined their talents to reflect warm understanding of the child's world.
