Jack and Jimmy are pals. Each boy has a tree house of his own, and they talk from house to house on tin-can telephones.
When a new boy named Don moves into the neighborhood, Jack and Jimmy are the first to greet him.
Don shows them his ant nest, saying "Welcome to Antville!" But soon after, Don's ant nest is mysteriously destroyed.
In the process of helping Don build a new one, Jack and Jimmy learn that ants are fun. They find out how ants lay their eggs and raise their young; how they fight and what they eat.
Milderd Myrick's charming and factual story is told in such simple language that beginning readers can enjoy it all by themselves.
Arnold Lobel's collaboration with Miss Myrick is as felicitous as was their last I CAN READ Book, THE SECRET THREE.
