Book Guide

When you get to be in the fourth grade you're at a pretty lively age. Betsy and Billy and their friends are as full of life and fun as half-grown puppies, and their experiences in this book reflect their vigor. Whether they're trying out their highly experimental cookery or organizing a football team, there's never a dull moment.

Take the football team, for instance, on which Betsy, being a girl, was not allowed to play. The first requirement for a football team is a ball, and the only one they had was so old it didn't last very long. Betsy's status as non-playing Grand Matron of the team changed suddenly when she acquired a football. Before that happened, the boys' attempts to earn money for a new ball by selling flea-soap rocked the serenity of Billy's home and the children's classroom. But they worked out of their difficulties and even improved the morale of the neighborhood by decorating it with a number of handsomely washed dogs.

Children will greet their old friends with new delight in this book full to the brim of fun and laughter. It is illustrated with the author's charming drawings.
