Nearly eighty-five years ago, the French nation, moved by remembrance of the heroic bond between the republics of France and America, existing since the days of Lafayette, decided to make a gift to America. The great sculptor, Bartholdi, was chosen to plan that gift. He conceived the Statue of Liberty, to stand in New York Harbor, and began his work. But it was fifteen long years before the gift was made by the people of France and accepted by the people of America; till the tremendous task of building the statue in France, shipping it across the sea and erecting it in its present proud place was accomplished.
When an artist like Frances Rogers tells this story, based on the actual historic facts, all its significance and drama emerge and it becomes not only interesting but thrilling. This story has never before been told for children or adults with such charm, and the eight lively full-page illustrations are a running accompaniment of flavor and humor.
The subject of this book will always have special importance and timeliness. Its story is finely told and beautifully presented.

INTRODUCING MISS LIBERTY TO YOU
If you are not already acquainted with the big statue that stands in New York Harbor (you may have seen her, but have you more than a bowing acquaintance with her?) this story—a true one, mind—is by way of introduction, so that when you do, some day, call on Miss Liberty, you will be able to regard her as an old friend.
