Mary Calhoun has written a gay continuation of Katie John's experiences in the old house in the small Missouri town which were described in Katie John.

To meet expenses so they can stay in the house they love, the Tuckers rented their extra rooms to boarders. Never, felt Katie John, had such a lovely plan fallen so flat. The boarders were demanding, the work was never-ending.

Even school was a problem—Katie was a new girl, an outsider. Although Sue was still her best friend, Katie John had to meet new girls—and boys. boys, thought eleven-year-old Katie, were impossible. And yet—didn't every girl want a lot of valentines on February 14?
