Youth is a time for challenging the status quo in search of idealistic answers for a better world. Many of the world's famous men and women were in their youth, as radical as any of today's young militants.

From Indian's Jawaharlal xxx, an aristocrat turned socialist whose conscience drove him to rebel against his father, his class and his government to Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and early advocate of "women's liberation" who spent her entire life fighting for full equality of women, Famous Young Rebels tells the story of a dozen youthful crusaders who fought against rich and powerful governments, against prejudice and dogma, against political corruption, against social injustice, against xxxx, against the domination of foreign powers and against male chauvinism.

There was Elizabeth Gurly Flynn the xxxx socialist orator who fought for the oppressed working xxx and woman; Robert La Follette whose youthful rebellion against corruption in government deepened into a lifelong struggle against unscrupulous, powerful business interests. the early xxxx of birth control, Margaret Sanger, who defied both common morality and the law to save the lives xxxx countless women and unwanted children; and xxx, a revolutionary from the age of eighteen who burned with deep anger at the misery in which the poor Indians of Mexico lived and who rose to become the scrupulously honest and selfless president of Mexico.

Yet there were also those rebels who became disillusioned with idealistic causes and joined the society they once rebelled against. Marcus Garvey, the spiritual father of the modern Black Power movement, was said to be an autocratic, vain and self-centered man. Benito Mussolini, who revolted against bourgeois government in his youth, succumbed to ambition oppressive, corrupt dictators the world has ever seen. William Randolph Hearst, whose newspaper empire first championed the oppressed, yielded to the temptations of power and manipulation.

The stories of these twelve famous young rebels make exciting, timely reading for today's youth. Like the young rebels of today, they stirred debate that spurred society to seek new answers to its problems.
