Joyce Lankester Brisley has been writing and drawing since her earliest years; when she was 13 her first fairy story was published in a children's paper. After her family moved to London she studied at an art school for two years, and when she was 20 she and her two sisters each had pictures hung in the Royal Academy. But writing and illustrating stories was her real love and it has reminded so; has inspires creation of Milly-Molly-Mandy and her family set the seal on her success.
Miss Brisley now lives in Hurlingham, in south-west London.
