Book Guide

In a big, green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. "Goodnight room, goodnight moon." And to all of his own familiar things in the softly lit room—to the pictures of the three little bears sitting in chairs, to the clocks and to his socks, to the mittens and to the kittens, to everything one by one—he says goodnight.
... Finally, in the near darkness "Goodnight stars, goodnight air... Goodnight noises everywhere."

It is a beautifully gentle and lulling text, with warm and equality lulling pictures by Clement Hurd (illustrator, also, of Miss Brown's popular Runaway Bunny). The individual objects being wished a good night are skillfully alternated with gradually darkening doublespread pictures in full color of the big warm room. This effect, and the quiet poetry of the words, make Goodnight Moon a perfect book for the end of the day.
