They are quite a family—the African lions! Unlike the bears, Father Lion shares in the upbringing of the family. We see him first on the jacket of the book, walking proudly with his cubs.

Mrs. Goudey and Garry MacKenzie tell us and show us how the cubs grow up, vividly and dramatically, and learn to hunt for food and to protect themselves.

The second part of the book tells of the Puma family, the "mountain lions" or "panthers" of our own country. There follows a brief section presenting other big cats.
