Every cat owner suspects that his cat thinks he is a person, and Mrs. Bucklestone's Emerald was no exception. After all, he slept on a bed, ate out of dishes, and even sat on a chair watching television. Then one night Emerald was lured into a series of beguiling moonlight adventures by a strange cat passing by, and his conviction was shaken temporarily.
In this inviting picture book the reader follows Emerald as he practices his songs on a fence, nibbles at delicious fresh catnip, and chases a mouse rustling in the grass. Only a cat, the stranger states postively, can do these things with such expertise. How Emerald resolves the conflict between the wild and tame elements in his nature, however, takes considerably more effort.
This book marks the second appearance of Emerald and his mistress, Mrs. Bucklestone. Again author and artist amusingly capture the perverse yet lovable personality of the cat with the bright green eyes and join forces to recreate the mysterious nighttime scenes in which his exploits occur.
