His colorful career included scouting, trapping, fighting, buffalo hunting. Three times he accompanied the famous explorer, John Charles Frémont, on his western expeditions. ???tized a Catholic at the age of thirty-two, Carson participated in the Mexican War and the War Between the States, in his later years making valued contributions toward peace and justice as a government Indian agent.
