Perhaps no man in history so influenced his country, and the world, as did Vladimir Lenin, Russian revolutionary thinker and leader. From his university days, when he was influenced by the writings of Karl Marx, until he became the leader of the Bolshevik party, Lenin had but one aim and one dream—the overthrow and control of the Russian government. He declared that the workers would revolt, not only in Russia, but throughout the world. When the Russian Revolution of 1917 did bring Lenin to full power, he announced his intention of liberating all humanity from all oppression. Yet it is the irony of his life that Lenin not only brought more oppression to his people, but laid the groundwork for the totalitarian system of the modern Soviet Union.
