Here are the stories of three happy children—Nanka, Marianka, and Honzicheck. We watch them make secrets, play jokes, laugh and dance and sing. They are Maminka's children and she holds them close to her heart with bonds of affection as strong as her love for old Bohemia.
There is Bidushka too, the hen who lays the Easter egg, and Katcha the goose, whose voice sounds like an accordian, and old Grandpa, who makes beautiful things out of wood, and Aunt Matylda who arrives from the old country. It is a busy happy household but there is always time for fun and jokes and quiet understanding.
The lively illustrations on almost every page this a picture as well as a story book. Both stories and pictures have a gentle humor and intimate childishness.
