The joyous celebration of Christmas has been a theme running through many of the Carolyn Haywood books about Betsy and Star. Now, in response to a widespread demand for her Christmas stories, Miss Haywood has collected into one volume those chapters that take place during the holiday season. In addition, she has included two new episodes that have not been published before.
Since Star is born on Christmas Eve, she figures largely in these doings. There is the story of her birth, her welcome into kindergarten, and the Christmas when she is given a special birthday tree. Betsy is never absent from the scene for long, however. She takes her friends on sleigh rides, with a mysterious driver who claims to be Santa Claus’s twin brother, rescues Billy from an avalanche of Christmas trees, and keeps everyone cheerful during a Christmas blizzard.
For this collection, Miss Haywood has drawn an entirely new set of illustrations. A happy combination of a favorite season with a favorite author, the book will be treasured by all Carolyn Haywood readers.
