When Veronica, a large and happy hippopotamus, arrives at Mr. Pumpkin's farm, she can't wait to make friends with all the barnyard animals. But day after day they ignore this strange new animal and say unkind things about her. Finally, poor lonely Veronica hides in the barn from these unfriendly creatures. But after a week, curiosity gets the better of them. How they come to welcome Veronica into their little group is a story that will delight any child who has ever moved to a new school or neighborhood.
