Peter Graves, the young hero of this story, is a rather rambunctious fellow who plans an extremely hazardous game of follow the leader. He winds up an extraordinary afternoon by completely destroying the home of an old inventor.
Crushed by this terrible accident, but determined to earn money to rebuild the house, Peter goes to work with the inventor, Houghton Furlong. Together, combining the old man's brains with Peter's wild imagination, they perform a series of fabulous exploits which not only astound their enormous audiences, but arouse the sinister interest of a villainous gentleman named Llewelyn Pierpont Boopfaddle.
Mr. du Bois has made a large number of drawings for the story. He seems to have as much enthusiasm for scientific detail as Houghton Furlong himself, and the old man will delight in these intricate and beautiful drawings of his fabulous inventions.
