Book Guide

Many times Pocahontas had heard her father, the Powhatan chief of many Indian tribes, tell of strangers who came to their land years before. Now, one day in the spring, men came upon the land to build a new settlement. Pocahontas hid in the tall grass to watch strangers and she liked what she saw. This was the beginning of Pocahontas' friendship with the settlers. It was a friendship which was to bring both sorrow and happiness to this young Indian girl.

This story is told mostly in words taught in the second grade. New words are those necessary to the story, plus a few added for reading enrichment.
