This is the story of a sugar maple tree and the child who planted it. They are friends, growing up together. Come share in their relationship—and see what a good friend a tree can be. Who knows, you might even decide to plant one of your own!
From a Wisconsin family that has planted many trees together, Lois Ehlert especially loves sugar maples because of their brilliant red and yellow fall leaves. She has written and illustrated many acclaimed books for children, including Hands: growing up to be an artist and Waiting for Wings and Leaf Man, both New York Times bestsellers. She created the textual collages for Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf from a variety of seeds, roots, fabric, ribbon, wire, paper, plastic, cardboard, watercolors, crayons, pencils, pens, and oil pastels. She even scrunched some of the paper leaves with her sandals!
