Thomas Aquinas is called 'the Angelic Doctor' because he wrote so extensively about the angels in whom all Christians of his time believed. But that distinction is not what has given him such a significant place in the history of Western thought. He is honoured for his extraordinary ability to link together the main affirmations of the Christian faith and the philosophy of Aristotle. Thomas Aquinas was a quiet, simple, deeply intellectual man. He was also a man with a vision of the whole world, which he wanted to understand so far as the human mind can come to understand it. Great thinkers influence the world in less obvious ways than do great doers. Yet, these thinkers produce far-reaching changes in men's minds and provide ideals for men to follow. Saint Thomas Aquinas was a great thinker.
