If you have never met Santa Mouse before, this may serve as an introduction of sorts. Of course, to the many thousands of delighted children (and grownups) who became acquainted with this most recent addition to Santa Claus's staff through the pages of the first book, Santa Mouse, he really needs no introduction. Santa Mouse, to put it briefly, is now an indispensable traveling companion to the jolly old bewiskered gentleman who tirelessly makes his rounds on Christmas Eve for the benefit of good children everywhere. He is that . . . and more.
The origin of Santa Mouse is somewhat obscure, there being no birth records available, but it is reliably reported that when the mouse was brought forth, there was instant identification to be found in the hearts and minds of all who came to know Santa Mouse — as sense of recognition — as if, somehow, he had always belonged with the joy and merriment of Christmas.
In his current adventure, Santa Mouse joins Santa Claus, as usual, for the annual Yuletide journey. They are off and flying, high above the rooftops, when a certain special gift drops from the sleigh. Santa Mouse tries to save it, but he falls out as well! All is not lost; the mouse lands in a snowback by way of a parachute. Yet there remains the problem of the two Santas getting back together. How will they find each other?
As in the first book, the delightful verses that tell this story are combined with attractive color illustrations by Elfrieda DeWitt to provide renewed enjoyment at each reading.
