Book Guide

This true fantasy was produced in collaboration by the author and illustrator of Hop, Skip and Fly: Imengarde Eberle, expert on nature stories, and Else Bostelmann, staff artist on many scientific expeditions. The material was gathered by Mrs. Bostelmann on four oceanographic expeditions of the New York Zoological Society, under the direction of Dr. William Beebe. The illustrations are the result of observations made by her through a diving helmet, and many are based on paintings actually made on the ocean floor off Bermuda. Every fact and every drawing is scientifically correct.

Life in this delightful book is recounted in fiction form (which makes it much more fun) but everything told is real fact.
