Book Guide
Spiderweb for Two is about the Melendys — a family that is almost as well known and beloved as the Marches and the Peppers.
Randy and Oliver Melendy awake one fall morning full of gloom. Their two brothers and their sister are away, the house seems forlorn and empty, and even Cuffy, their adored housekeeper, cannot cheer them as they face a long and lonely winter.
But a surprise message in the mailbox starts them on a trail of excitement and adventure. The message, in the form of a poem which they must decipher, leads them to the hiding place of another message, and so begins a season of enchantment for Randy and Oliver. When, finally, it is summer again, the children have found fourteen messages in all, and the end of the trail brings them a rich reward.
Elizabeth Enright is one of the finest of children's authors. The Saturdays, The Four-Story Mistake, and And Then There Were Five, all books about the Melendys, gained a wide and enthusiastic audience. In this wonderful sequel, children and parents alike will find unforgettable pleasure and royal entertainment.
