Crow is envious of Canary's golden cage and asks St. Francis to give him a cage too, so that all can see what a fine bird he is. The kindly saint obliges, but Crow is soon dissatisfied with his new home, for he finds he hasn't room to stretch his wings and fly. How the proud bird eventually learns the value of freedom, with the loving help of a humble little sparrow, is a wise and appealing story which has enchanted children for generations.
