There are children's nature stories where all the creatures act like people. Those imaginative stories have an important place in a child's life. I love the Thornton Burgess books and Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit and friends, but the stories in this volume are not like that. While they are still written in a way a child can understand, the stories are written about nature herself. I have come to love the Nature books from 100 years ago. They're informative but are always loaded with buried gems of wisdom and have an overriding reverence for the Creator.
