Book Guide

Years cannot dull the appeal which these six delightful tales possess for boys and girls. The antics of the Brownie in behalf of his playmates, the wholesome and interesting activities of the children, the pleasant background of the quant Devonshire home, are all combined into a narrative which charms the more mature reader as well as the child.

Youthful readers will feel genuine comradeship with the children in their difficulties with the cross old gardener. Relief and approval when the Brownie comes slyly to the rescue will be equally genuine. Since the Brownie, though a wee bit malicious, is always on the side of justice, Mrs. Craik has opportunity to suggest quietly an occasional simple moral always applicable to juvenile ethics.
