But why does he work at chasing cows. To throw a rope about their necks and jerk them to the ground? Why does he wear those clumsy chaps—or a bandana—or high heeled boots? Where did saddles come from? What is a kyack?

All these things have reasons behind them. Behind the reasons are interesting stories. Many of them go back to a past time, when the West was a wild expanse of plain and mountain known only to animals and the stalking Indian.
