Book Guide

On the last day of winter, Henry and his older brother, Pete, made a little snowman on their front lawn. That night as the boys were going to bed, Henry confided to his brother that he was worried—wouldn't the bright moonlight melt the little snowman before morning? Pete only laughed and said, "Don't be silly, Henry!" But the next morning the snowman had completely vanished! Peter couldn't understand it at all.

Now Henry knew a secret about the snowman, but he didn't tell a soul (except his mother) until the day of the big Fourth of July celebration. And how astonished the whole town was when the secret at last became known! It was a bigger hit than the Grand Fireworks Display, and even the Mayor stepped up to shake Henry's hand.

Young children, especially those with older brothers and sisters, will enjoy this gently humorous account of a little boy's triumph. Margaret Bloy Graham's richly detailed pictures in three colors add much to the charm of the story.
