The Larsson family came from a tenant farm in Sweden in 1856, when America was 'the land of opportunity' and when anyone who settled west of the Mississippi was a frontiersman. Homesteading first in Wisconsin, then in Minnesota, the Larssons found plenty of exciting adventures, hard work, and fun. Gus, who was the first to learn English, went to work for a lawyer in Red Wing, and came to realize that he could help Swedish immigrants to become Americans if he could learn to be a lawyer himself.
"...the Larsson children grew up to be sturdy, high-minded Americans, bringing certain native arts and crafts to enrich their new home. This generous story of Swedish immigrants has fun and adventure and revealing pictures..." The Horn Book.
THEY CAME FROM SWEDEN was the first in this series of books being written by Mrs. Judson, and designed to interest and aid young Americans in understanding the background of young Europeans whose families have come to live in this country.
