When a deadly disease began to spread, Tu Youyou knew she had to help.
Tu Youyou had been interested in science and medicine since she was a child, so when malaria started infecting people all over the world in 1969, she went to work finding a treatment.
Healed by traditional medicine techniques when she was young, Tu Youyou started experimenting with the qinghao plant, a natural Chinese remedy for fever.
Her experiments failed hundreds of times, but Tu Youyou persevered. The treatment she discovered is still used all over the world. This is the inspiring true story of how she saved millions of lives and became the first Chinese woman to win a Nobel Prize.
