Teri Sloat
Teri and Robert Sloat met while studying in the art department at Oregon State University. As newlyweds, they traveled to Alaska and then took teaching jobs in the remote village of Nunapitchuk. For the next twelve years, they taught in the small Alaskan villages of Kotlik, Kalskag, Oscarville, and Bethel.
Teri Sloat has retold and illustrated another Yupik folktale, The Eye of the Needle. She also conceived and illustrated From Letter to Letter and From One to One Hundred.
The Sloats now live with their three children in Sebastopol, California.
